Plumbing in Footscray
Footscray's housing is largely Victorian and Edwardian cottages and interwar homes, alongside significant new apartment development and a dense, busy commercial strip.
The older housing carries plumbing that is genuinely at end of life. Original clay sewer drains under mature street trees make root intrusion routine, and galvanised supply pipework, where it survives, has corroded internally to the point where pressure and water quality are noticeably affected. Many of these cottages have had rear bathrooms and kitchens added over the decades, connected into drainage that was never upgraded to match.
Footscray's commercial strip is a substantial part of our work. The concentration of food businesses means grease-related drainage problems are common, and they recur unless both the trap and the drain line are maintained rather than just cleared when they back up.
