Heidelberg combines established period homes, substantial post-war housing and a significant medical and commercial precinct around the hospitals, which makes the work here unusually varied.
Residentially, much of the housing sits on undulating land near the Yarra flats, and the older homes carry the drainage issues typical of their age, clay sewer lines with root intrusion and stormwater systems that predate current rainfall expectations.
